Malak Mattar (b.2000) is a visual artist from Gaza, Palestine. She started painting during Israel’s bombing campaign of the Gaza Strip in 2014 that lasted over one month and has since survived three more. In a 2019 interview, she responded: “I don’t paint despite war and occupation. I paint because of it.”

“Shelter”: “During the assault on Gaza in May 2021, there were no bomb shelters, no safe place one could go. We could only stay close, in our homes, and hope not to be killed. This was deeply traumatic. Yet this situation also created and deepened connections within families. In the midst of this terrible destruction, there was real love. This is how Palestinian survive.”

ملاك مطر (مواليد 2000)، فنانة تشكيلية فلسطينية من غزة. بدأت الرسم لأول مرة خلال العدوان الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة عام 2014، والذي استمر 51 يوما، وقد نجت من ثلاث حملات قصف إسرائيلية أخرى من ذلك الحين. في مقابلة لها عام 2019، أجابت قائلة: "أنا لا أرسم على الرغم من الحرب والاحتلال، أنا أرسم بسببهما."

"مأوى" :"خلال العدوان الإسرائيلي على غزة في أيار 2021، لم يكن هناك أي ملجأ نحتمي به من القصف، ولا أي مكان آمن يمكننا الذهاب إليه. خيارنا الوحيد كان البقاء في بيوتنا، بالقرب من بعضنا البعض، آملين أن لا نكون من ضحايا هذا العدوان. وعلى الرغم من أن هذه التجربة كانت مؤلمة وقاسية جدا، إلا أنها أحيت ووطدت أواصر المحبة بين أفراد العائلة. في خضم هذا التدمير الفظيع، وجدنا أنفسنا محاطين بالمحبة والعطف. هكذا يستطيع الفلسطينيون الصمود والبقاء."
